Every Child in rural areas deserves education and so beginning of our journey

Philosophy:

Education is the key to unleashing the potential of child capital in India and driving socio-economic growth. All of our country’s growth models depend on a productive demographic dividend, which require an educated population. In our effort to make a difference, we decided to focus on improving the quality of rural school education in the country. Creating this change today will mean that future generations will also have access to better education and better lives. Our approach to education focuses on systemic efforts to improve  outcomes of the learning system.

Ganga Shikshan Prasarak Mandal aims to provide integrated educational and livelihood support & services to the economically active poor, ranging from enrollment in school, providing mid-day meal, capacity building, providing short-term affordable loans which are easy to repay , to enable them to lead a ‘better life’.

Ganga Shikshan Prasarak Mandal follows the strategy of participatory education by involving beneficiaries be it child, poor of the financially challenged rural community. Ganga Shikshan Prasarak Mandal's Education Program provides education for out-of-school children and helpsthem to enter or re-enter government schools to complete their education.

As we explored the education sector, we found that there are few common platforms that bring together stakeholders in education towards catalysing collective action. We adopt a focused approach to our work. We forge deep engagements with State Government that are not limited to educational grant. We seek strategic guidance from our partners and when required, also seek operational and leadership support from partner donor organisations.

The Challenge

India has made progress in enrolling children in school but it has failed to deliver quality education. Thus, the next big challenge is bringing quality in education. Learning assessments show that children are not learning basics of literacy and numeracy. Almost 34% of students do not complete primary school and about 80% never make it to college and those who remain in school receive low-quality instruction. A global study Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) ranked India nearly at the bottom in mathematics and reading skills underscoring the magnitude of the problem of quality of education. As a result, India faces significant shortages in skilled labour and individuals with minimum levels of cognitive skills and the public education system has struggled to meet this demand. India is banking on half its population being below the age of 25 for sustainable growth. We will be unable to reap the benefits of this demographic dividend unless we make investments to provide quality education and emphasize on learning outcomes that prepare young people with skills to be productively employed.

TRANSFORMING LIVES THROUGH PARTICIPATORY EDUCATION

We work primarily in all gamuts of ‘participatory education sector’ for disadvantaged & under-priviliged section of the society in particular and all income segment of the society in general as it’s one of the most important goal of United Nations Millennium Development Goal. Our past experience in various social development programmes certainly help us towards building the momentum for building, strengthening & spreading our ‘participatory education programs’ across our catchment area of Parbhani,Nanded in Marathwada Region of Maharashtra State in the country among the poor people. This year we forged some new partnership and alliances and conducted 4-Basic Education & literacy programmes for labourers & thelawalas, migrant workers and other financially challenged poor for creating

During implementation of rural educational initiatives in rural areas we found that lakhs of low-income families & poor’s wards didn’t get enrolled in school due to lack of awareness and livelihood issues as well as gets cheated by multi-layer ponzi schemes only due to very low level of basic financial education. We decided to include this important agenda in our revamped business strategy as core program by creating awareness and linkage of target population to existing formal educational institutions and financial institutions like-banks, insurers, mutual funds, government schemes to achieve financial security for them.
